 IMO ইন্সটেন্ট মেসেজিং এর বিশ্বের অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় একটি ফ্রি অডিও ভিডিও কলিং এর একটি ফ্রী মাল্টি প্লাটফোর্ম এ্যপ। BBC এর একটি তথ্য সুত্রে বিশ্ব ব্যাপি ১৫০ টিরো বেশি দেশ জুড়ে ২০০ মিলিয়নের ও বেশি মানুষ IMO (ইমু) ব্যাবহার করে। যার মধ্যে মধ্য প্রাঞ্চ ও এশিয়া মহাদেশে অন্যতম মার্কেট।  

বর্তমানে অ্যাপটিতে মোট ২০ টি ভাষা ব্যাবহার করা যায়। DhakaTribune এর একটি তথ্য সুত্রে ২০২১ সালেই IMO (ইমু) বাংলাদেশি ব্যাবহারকারীরা ৯৬ বিলিয়ন মেসেজ ও ২৬ বিলিয়ন অডিও ভিডিও কল করেছে। যদিও IMO সাইং আপ ও মেসেজিং এবং অডিও ভিডিও কলিং এর মত সার্ভিস ব্যাবহার করার জন্য কোন প্রকার চার্জ করা হয়না। 

ইমুর ইতিহাস

২০০৫ সালে একদিন থ্রুজিয়েন্স ও তার ভাই এবং জরজেস হ্যারিকের হাত ধরেই US এর California তে ইন্সটেন্ট ম্যাসেজিং IMO (ইমু) এর যাত্রা সুরু করে। এর আগে জরজেস হ্যারিক ১৯৯৯ সাল থেকে গুগলে কাজ করেছিলেন এবং র‍্যালফ হেরিফ Oracle এ কর্মরত ছিলেন। গুগলে থাকা কালিন Gmail, Picasa, Talk, Google Adsense, Adword এর মত অনলাইন প্রযুক্তির সাথে জড়িত থাকার ফলে এ্যন্ড্রয়েডের উপর জরজেস বেশ এক্সপিরিয়েন্সড (Experienced) ছিলেন। গুগলে চাকরির মধ্য দিয়ে জরজেস ইন্সটেন্ট ম্যাসেজিং এ্যাপলিকেশনের ভবিশ্যৎ নিয়ে বেশ আশা বাদি ছিলেন। এবং তিনি তার ভাইকে উৎসাহিত করেন একটি ইউজার ইন্টারফেসের অধিনে মাল্টিপল ইন্সটেন্ট ম্যাসেজিং  এ্যাপ্লিকেশন ব্যাবহার করতে সক্ষম এমন একটি ওয়েব বেসেড এ্যাপ ডেভলপ করতে। সে সময় ম্যাসেজিং সার্ভিস গুলো সুধু Windows, Mac এর জন্যই ডেভলপ করা হত। ফলে লিনাক্স অপারেটিং ব্যাবহার কারিরা ইন্সট্যান্ট ম্যাসেজিং এ্যপলিকেশন গুলা এ্যক্সেস করতে পারতোনা। মূলত অপারেটিং সিস্টেম যাই থাকুক না কেন ব্যাবহার কারীরা যেন একটি প্লাটফোর্ম থেকেই সকল ধরনের ইন্সট্যান্ট ম্যাসেজিং প্লাটফোর্ম ব্যাবহার করতে পারে।

এই জন্যই IMO (ইমু) কে একটি ওয়েব ভিত্তিক এ্যাপ্লিকেশনে ডেভেলপ করা হয়েছিল। কিন্তু IMO (ইমু) এমন একটি ওয়েব ভিত্তিক এ্যাপ ছিলো যা সব OS ইউজার IMO এর ইন্সট্যান্ট ম্যাসেজিং এর পাশা পাশি সকল ধরনের ম্যাসেজিং প্ল্যাটফোর্ম ব্যাবহার করা যেতো। এরপর তারা ধীরে ধীরে IMO (ইমু) Development এর কাজ করতে থাকে। এবং এ্যাপটিতে ফেসবুক ম্যাসেঞ্জার, ইয়াহু ম্যাসেজ ও গুগল টক সহ স্কাইপ এর মত জনপ্রিয় ম্যাসেজিং প্লাটফোর্ম এ্যাড করেন। 

২০১০ সালে 10.3 Million USD A সিরিজের ফান্ডিং ও ২০১৩ সালে CO-Founder জরজ হ্যারিকের কাছ থেকে 13.3 Million USD B Round ফান্ডিং পায় IMO (ইমু)।  একি বছরে IMO একটি ব্রডকাস্টিং সিস্টেম লঞ্চ করেছিল যাতে ছিলো নির্দিষ লোকেশনে থাকা ব্যাবহার কারিরা একে অপরের সাথে চ্যাট করতে পারতো। 

2013 সালে IMO (ইমু) ৫০ মিলিওন ম্যাসেজ ও ৭ লাখ ৫০ হাজার এ্যাক্টিভ ভিজিটর ও ৭ মিলিইয়ন ডাউনলোড করে রেকর্ড করেছে। পরের বছর IMO (ইমু) একটি মারটি প্লাটফোর্ম ভিডিও কলিং সার্ভিস চালু করে। যদিও ২০১৪ সালের মার্চ মাসে IMO (ইমু) এর সকল থার্ড পার্টির ম্যাসেজিং সাপোর্ট বন্ধ করার ঘোষনা দেয় এবং নিজেদের Instant Messaging ও Instant Calling এর দিকে ফোকাস করতে থাকে। ১০১৮ সালে কম্পানিটি ৫০০ মিলিয়ন ডাউনলোডের মেইল ফলক অতিক্রম করে।
