Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary spatial computer that seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, while allowing users to stay present and connected to others. It is Apple's first major product introduction since the Apple Watch in 2015 and is set to be available for purchase in early 2024 in the United States.
Design and Hardware
Apple Vision Pro has a breakthrough design that features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays, and custom Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design to ensure every experience feels like it’s taking place in front of the user’s eyes in real time.
The device has a laminated glass display front, an aluminum frame covered by a flexible cushion, and an adjustable headband. The frame contains five sensors, six microphones and 12 cameras. Two micro-OLED displays with a total of 23 megapixels, each with a size of a postage stamp, will be seen by the user through the lens.
The device also comes with an external battery pack that supports up to 2 hours of use, and all‑day use when plugged in¹. The battery pack can be attached to the user's belt or pocket.
Software and Features
Apple Vision Pro runs on visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system that blends digital content with the physical world. Built on the foundation of macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, visionOS features a three-dimensional interface that frees apps from the boundaries of a display so they can appear side by side at any scale.
Apple Vision Pro introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs possible — a user’s eyes, hands, and voice. Users can navigate simply by using their eyes, hands, and voice. They can also use Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad to set up the perfect workspace or bring the powerful capabilities of their Mac into Vision Pro wirelessly.
Apple Vision Pro enables users to be even more productive, creative, and entertained with infinite screen real estate, access to their favorite apps, and all-new ways to multitask. Some of the features include:
Apps: Users can arrange apps anywhere and scale them to the perfect size, making the workspace of their dreams a reality — all while staying present in the world around them. They can browse the web in Safari, create a to-do list in Notes, chat in Messages, and seamlessly move between them with a glance¹.
Entertainment: Users can transform any room into their own personal theater. They can expand their movies, shows, and games up to the perfect size while feeling like they’re part of the action with Spatial Audio. And with more pixels than a 4K TV for each eye, they can enjoy stunning content wherever they are¹.
Photos and Videos: Users can capture magical spatial photos and spatial videos in 3D with Apple Vision Pro's 3D camera. They can then relive those cherished moments like never before with immersive Spatial Audio. Their existing library of photos and videos looks incredible at remarkable scale. And panoramas wrap around them — making them feel like they’re standing right where they took them¹.
Connection: Users can collaborate and connect wherever they are with FaceTime. FaceTime video tiles are life-size, and as new people join, the call simply expands in their room. Within FaceTime, they can also use apps to collaborate with colleagues on the same documents simultaneously.
Apple Vision Pro is expected to cost $2,999 USD³ and will be compatible with iPhone 12 or later². It will also require an Apple ID and iCloud account for setup and use.
Apple Vision Pro is a game-changer for computing and promises to deliver extraordinary new experiences for users and exciting new opportunities for developers.
